Li-Chi Hsiao is a multidisciplinary artist making sound installations and live performances. Using self-made interfaces, her works take on a variety of forms such as Audio-Visual, sound, installations and live performances.
Since 2011, she collaborated with sound artist Iang Tu and Chang Yen-Tzu and began to incorporate visual aspects into her work. Her installations create a transfer from body to the visual domain. In 2013, she began to create audiovisual live performances. In her work she often is questioning the relationship between audience and performer, people and herself.

Richard Garet interweaves moving image, sound, expanded photography, and multimedia performance. Garet’s pieces, whether conceptual in origin or stemming from ontological investigations of material and space, are informed by the background noise established as the collective experience of the world that surrounds him. Garet seeks to invert the normative function of this background noise, drawing it up from unconscious status to active presence. He finds further inspiration from observing isolated situations of everyday life and from material interactions that incorporate problems of context, technology, defunctionalization, commodity, and environment. These developments present immersive situations that draw attention not only to the processes of reception-and-perception but also articulate the artist’s interest in time-based input and affect.

Day 3: 21st of May, 8pm @ ZUKUNFT am Ostkreuz

Jealousy Party is a Berlin based abstract R&B outfit blending noise and improvisation with funk, avant rock, dub and idiosyncratic electronic collage – a fusion they term Punca. Founded in Florence, Italy in 1995 by producers Roberta WJM Andreucci and Mat Pogo, JP keep their line-up open to variations and explorations, with multi- instrumentalist Edoardo Ricci as their main collaborator.jealousy_party.jpg

Right now they are active as a duo with founder members WJM and Mat Pogo on players, electronics and vocals playing metamorphic samples from the burning library of sessions that the duo recorded with an open collective of musicians involved in the Jealousy Party since years.

Those recordings are endlessly reshuffled, dubbed and remixed live with a spontaneous use of playback devices that has become one of Jealousy Party’s most crucial trademarks, in a musical frame that is never 100% improvised and never 100% fixed.

Botborg - Principle 9.jpg

Botborg is an international audio-visual performance group that fuses and rewires raw electronic signals to create intensely visceral experiences of sound-color synaesthesia. Using a complex array of custom electronics, Botborg create totally live multi-sensory assaults of interdependent color and rhythm, pushing the limits of technology to invoke the maximum possible stimulation of their audience’s mind and body. Botborg work with a level of experimentation and improvisation that places them in a territory outside traditional musical or cinematic formats, where the boundaries between art, science, and philosophy mutate until they are rendered meaningless.

Beginning in 2004 in Australia (now also located in Germany), Botborg have been making performances of real-time ‘glitch’ sound-video before any such concept was fashionable. Using the largest sound systems and projection screens available, Botborg provides a highly physical experience in concert as the combination of noise, light, and the live space erupt into a work abstracted beyond the cinematic language. Persons who may be prone to photosensitive seizures are advised to exercise caution. Botborg’s performances are essentially practical demonstrations of their own ‘meta-instrument’ known as the ‘Photosonicneurokineasthograph’. This is a complex feedback machine incorporating an entangled mix of new and old technologies that are altered and customized to the unique features of every venue. Although the human operators of Botborg are skilled manipulators of the system, it is equally unpredictable and uncontrollable, allowing Botborg to look and sound vastly different on every occasion. All demonstrations are completely improvised and no source material is used outside the Photosonicneurokineasthograph.

Botborg has hosted live demonstrations at many prestigious music, film, and media festivals throughout Europe, North America, Australia, and Japan. Botborg’s films are distributed by specialist experimental film archive Light Cone (Paris, France).

John Bock

Video Screening with no Sound:

Der Boxer
Berlin, 2002

Porzellan-IsoSchizo-Küchentat
Documenta 11, Kassel

Suggestion
Berlin, 2012

Bock is a multi-media artist primarily known for his performances. Since 1991, he creates environments hand crafted from found materials which function as symbolic settings for his “lectures.” More recently there has been an increased production of film and video work.[1]

In his “lectures”, Bock acts on “stages” built from tables, cupboards or multi-level wood constructions. The objects are handmade or re-modeled accessories of the lecture, made out of clothing, electrical equipment such as hoovers and mixers, or “plastic diagrams” that illustrate his mathematical explanations. After the lecture, they are left on the stage which thus forms a “theatrical collage”. The “lectures” are structured by different scenes in which Bock sometimes works with (non-professional) actors; frequently he plays pop songs or classical pieces from a record player. The lecture is mostly recorded on video. The film is then integrated in the installation, documenting the lecture throughout the exhibition.[2]

Bock has been professor for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts of Karlsruhe since 2004.

Laura Odl is a sound artist, radio producer, broadcaster, musician and Dj based in Berlin since 2007. Explorer of sound and music, collector of records and cassettes tapes she also collects pieces of reality recording sounds everywhere she goes. As an artist she works with field recordings, analogue tape machines, cassette players and other obsolete media. As Dj she plays under the name of Ondula, she is resident of the club Sameheads, icon of the underground electronic music scene in Berlin, where she hosts the bi monthly party Diapason, together with Arcane Onde. She explores deep into music proposing an Immersion in obscure electronics, forgotten tapes, analogue synths, Avant-garde, composers, pioneerism and sound collages. Down tempo dance movements combined with rhythms which lead to a different state of consciousness. “Submerged into the rivers of experimental electronics, she will always start a dialogue with those who listen, who seek and with those who swim along.” Together with Eva Geist, she is half of the electronic music duo As Longitude, part of the Berlin label Eine Welt and the Dutch label Knekelhuis where their first Ep, Blauer Part, has been released in 2017.
